PWR! UP™ Understanding Exercise and Parkinson Disease
Target Audience: This is a basic course open to anyone with a desire to learn about Parkinson disease and how they can help people with Parkinson disease get BETTER and stay BETTER LONGER!  It is already included in the PWR! courses above, but may be presented as its' own course as well for lay public or medical professionals.

Description:

Attendants will gain knowledge about the mission and vision of the Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) Project. They will be introduced to the rationale for exercise programs for people with PD that adhere to Exercise4BrainChange™ principles. Participants will then gain general knowledge about Parkinson disease (PD) to include: who gets it, what causes it, diagnosis, different clinical presentations and progressions of the disease, interventions for symptomatic relief to include medications, deep brain surgery, and exercise. Recent basic and clinical science research will then be presented about new interventions (gene/cell therapies and exercise) that promote brain repair (neuroprotection), reorganization (neuroplasticity) and offer hope for behavioral recovery in human PD. The translation of these exciting findings calls for new community-based delivery paradigms that focus on early intervention, provide continuous access to PD-specific exercise programs, and that implement Exercise4BrainChange™ principles. Barriers and Solutions to this new healthcare delivery paradigm will be discussed.

PWR! COACH™

Target Audience: Lay public, caregivers, family and friends of people with PD.
